In what type of photography can I use Canon 350D with 50mm 1.4 USM?
I also have my 18-55mm kit lens. Currently I'm trying portait.
As has already been mentioned, the large aperture is ideal for low light levels, so you may want to consider live music concert photography. I used exactly the same combination of body and lens for this shot. http://www.flickr.com/photos/aldeman/228766399/in/set-72157594269225250/ Click "More properties" at the bottom right, and you will see that despite being in a very dark places, shutter speed 1/200s is only because of the high ISO setting and the aperture wide open to f/1.4. Click "All sizes" and then go to the "original" image and look at the eye region. You'll see his left eye is in focus, but as soon as you move an inch or so on back to the other eyebrow, it is noticeably out of focus. This is what is meant by the narrow depth of field and can be used with good effect if you want to draw attention to a specific function.
