What is the best replacement for the macro lens?

extension tubes? close-up lenses (filters)? or set a standard 50mm lens on my lens (SAW a guy doing it on youtube – amazing performance) I dont have any of these, as far as buying goes, they all seem to be in the same price range on eBay

I have both a 100mm micro and a standard 50, plus several extension rings. The other day I found a small spider (about the size of a dime, maybe a bit less), with a 50, you will focus on the closest of about 1 foot, not closer, it will have to be really small spider in the picture kinda see that it is something dark with his legs, but no more. With a 100 mm macro, you will focus on about 1 foot away as well, but you will see a spider with 8 black eyes, hair sticks out of his back, fangs front covered by hairy mouth cover flaps. Macro + extension rings, rather focus on about 1 / 2 foot, about 70% of the photo is spider, you can see reflection of your camera in his biggest two eyes. 50 + either mission, minimum focal length is just 3cm away, very inconvenient, because when you hold the camera straight into the faces of creatures, he tends to get scared and run away, the pictures with the 50 + extensions came out bad and barely in focus. Ultimately, a macro a macro there just is not much you can replace it with if you want quality, macro is my old nikon full manual micro-100mm, I love it because you can use extension rings on the old, but not on the automatic new VR one.
